The Shows:

The club conducts back to back shows in late October. The show grounds are near Leesburg, Virginia, on the National Historic Trust's Oatlands Plantation. The plantation house was built in 1810 and has long been a home of horses, dogs and fox hunting. The grounds lend to events a genteel ambiance, and many old hands at showing dogs say that the Middleburg shows have the grace and friendliness of a classic dog show. The AKC Gazette has recognized the show as one of the top ten in the country. Exhibitors and spectators have enjoyed not only the shows but also tours of the Oatlands grounds and their formal English gardens.

The 2005 shows began our first full weekend event, with shows on Saturday and Sunday. For the previous nine years we had a Friday and Saturday format. Since the Friday shows had no obedience, this change enabled us to offer two days of obedience trials alongside our breed competitions. Entries to the shows average 2000 dogs each, most of which stay for both. There is ample RV parking and a large nomad community settles in Friday night on fields that on other Fall weekends are silent and empty.

The Middleburg shows are two of the featured events at Oatlands over during the year and are in appropriate company. Oatlands is also the site of the Winter and Fall Hunt Country Antique Shows, the Spring Hunt Country Antiques Fair, the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point Races, the National Sheep Dop Trials, Christmas at Oatlands and several plays that are performed during the year. The inaugural show was held on Saturday, October 29th, 1983, in the area that is now the parking lot for the Oatlands Carriage House. The entry for that first show was 1060 dogs. Appropriately for a kennel club based in Middleburg, Virginia, Best in Show was earned by an English Foxhound, Ch. Mr. Stewart's Cheshire Winslow. The club began the two show, Friday/Saturday back to back format in 1996. Now we have moved to a Saturday/Sunday format, with obedience available in both shows.
